Introduction Video
Watch this short video to help you get started on your assessment journey with Brilliant Assessments!
Which type of assessment are you building? Brilliant Assessments supports Individual, Group/Team, and 360 assessments, plus optional add-ons like Timed, Phased, and Assessor reviews. If you are unsure which type fits your needs, see this article on Choosing the Right Assessment Type.
Everyone’s use of the software will be different, so how they approach the system will vary. Below is a recommended pathway to help you get started.
On this page
Phase 1 – Build Your Assessment
- Add an Assessment. This will copy your Template assessment and launch the assessment builder (Read more here: Managing Assessments)
-
In the Assessment Builder: There are several components to an assessment.
- Sections appear as a page both in the assessment builder and responses. Ratings are calculated at this level. You can read more here: Add/Modify Sections
- Subsections are usually hidden from the respondent while completing their response. There must be at least one subsection for each section. You can read more here: Add/Modify Sub-Sections
- Questions appear on the screen and each has a potential score. Read more here: Add/Modify Questions
- Available Answers. Answers may be text, images or several other types. Selectable answer types have scores.
- Instructions may appear before any question and can include video and images.
-
Feedback drives the feedback report. The report includes:
- Text in the report template
- Ratings, scores, and graphics (overall, section, subsection)
- Subsection rating text
- Answer text
- Text entered into text boxes
Phase 2 – Configure Key Settings
- Set up the Ratings appropriate for the assessment (Read more about Ratings)
- Set up the Graphics for the site and the assessment (Read more about Graphics)
- Set up the Email Template (Read more about Emails)
- Review and set up the other settings (Read more about Settings)
Phase 3 – Create Your Feedback Report & Results Dashboard
Brilliant Assessments offers two ways to present feedback to respondents: a Feedback Report (generated as a Word or PDF document) and a Results Dashboard (an interactive online view). You can use either or both depending on your needs.
Note: See Getting Started with Feedback Reports for step-by-step instructions.
- Download a starter report template from White-Label Starter Templates or use your own Word document
- Upload your report on the Feedback tab in Assessment Settings and build it using the Brilliant Assessments Word Add-in
- Or create your Results Dashboard from the Assessment Manager menu (Read more about Results Dashboards)
Phase 4 – Test and Review
- Test your assessment by adding a Response (from the response list screen). You can view the response from the action menu. The response and feedback report regenerate each time you view it.
See this article for a Pre-Launch Checklist for Your Assessment.
