When you add a question in the Assessment Builder, the position number is assigned in increments of 10 (for example, 10, 20, 30). This is intentional. The gaps allow you to insert new questions between existing ones without renumbering the surrounding questions.
For example, if you have questions positioned at 10, 20, and 30, you can insert a new question between the first and second by setting its position to 15. The other questions retain their original numbers.
This is particularly important when other parts of the assessment reference a question by its position, such as:
- Conditional logic on questions, sections, or subsections.
- Calculations that reference specific answers.
- Merge strings in feedback reports that target a question or answer by ID.
Renumbering existing questions would break these references, so the 10-step increment preserves stability as your assessment evolves.
