Business Name is a field on the response record, found on the General tab of Response Settings. It can be populated in two ways.
Automatically from a question (Link to Response Settings)
If you want the respondent's own answer to populate the Business Name field, link a question to that field using Link to Response Settings.
- In the Assessment Builder, add a question with an Answer Type of Text Box (for example, "What is your business name?").
- Open the question and click the Options tab.
- In the Link to Response Settings dropdown, select Business Name.
- Click Save.
When the respondent answers the question, their answer is written to the Business Name field on their response. The link also works in reverse: if a Business Name is already stored on the response, the question prepopulates with it. If you only need the value for reporting or logic, you can hide the question while keeping the link active.
Manually on the response
To set or change the Business Name on an existing response directly:
- Go to Responses and locate the response.
- Click View, then select Response Settings.
- On the General tab, enter or update the Business Name field.
- Click Save.
Notes
- The Business Name can be displayed in feedback reports and emails using the merge string
{Response.BusinessName}. For merge string help, see What is a merge string, and how do I use one? - The same Link to Response Settings method (Question > Options tab) maps other response fields, including Respondent Name, First Name, Last Name, Email Address, Organization, and Customer Type.
For the full list of linkable fields and setup detail, see Linking Questions to Response Settings. For the Response Settings screen itself, see Response Settings Explained.
