We have updated the wording of a number of field labels, checkboxes, tabs, and buttons across Assessment Settings and the Assessment Builder. The aim is to make each setting describe what it actually does, and to use the same term for the same thing everywhere in the platform.
The most significant change is that report text and rating text are now both called Rating Text. A few settings have also moved to a more logical tab.
Your assessments, responses, cohorts, reports, and merge strings are unaffected, and there is no action for you to take. You may simply notice that a field you use regularly now has a clearer name, or sits on a different tab.
On this page
1. Renamed settings
These are the labels you are most likely to notice.
| Previously | Now | Where you will see it |
| Auto Create Response | Enable External Response Initiation | Assessment Settings > General |
| Open Response | Use Assessor Functionality | Assessment Settings > General |
| Calculations Enabled | Use Calculations | Assessment Settings > General |
| Use Legacy Calculation Code | Use Legacy Calculation | Assessment Settings > General |
| Benchmarking Enabled | Use Benchmarking | Assessment Settings > General |
| Base Benchmark Label | All Responses Label | Assessment Settings > General |
| Additional Benchmarks | Additional Benchmark | Assessment Settings > General |
| External Cohort | Enable External Cohort Initiation | Assessment Settings > Cohort |
| Segmentations | Themes | Assessment Builder, and Assessment Settings > Ratings |
The Segmentations to Themes change was introduced earlier and is now reflected consistently across the platform. For the full detail on that update, see July 2026 - Themes (formerly Segmentations).
On the Feedback tab, the reports and results for an assessment are now split across two subtabs, Individual Feedback and Cohort Feedback. Within them, the dashboard sections are now called Individual Results and Cohort Results, added with Add Individual Result and Add Cohort Results.
2. Report Text is now Rating Text
Previously the platform used both "rating text" and "report text" for what is essentially the same thing. This was a common source of confusion, so it is now Rating Text everywhere: at section, subsection, theme, question, and answer level.
| Previously | Now |
| Report Text (tab in Question Edit and Answer Edit) | Rating Text |
| Report Text1 to Report Text5 (question level) | Rating Text 1 to Rating Text 5 |
| Show Feedback / Hide Feedback (Builder button) | Show Rating Text / Hide Rating Text |
| Save Report Text (Answer Edit button) | Save Rating Text |
| Answer Report Text (Merge Manager field name) | Answer Rating Text |
One small improvement comes with this change. The Rating Text tab at question level now appears only for question types that can use it, such as Single Choice and Multiple Choice. It no longer appears on question types that never supported answer level rating text, such as Slider questions, so there is nothing to hunt for.
In the Assessment Builder, the Show Rating Text button also tells you how many rating texts are currently in use, for example Show Rating Text (1).
3. Settings that have moved
A few settings now sit on a more logical tab. Their behavior is unchanged.
| Setting | Previously on | Now on |
| Use Assessor Functionality (was Open Response), and the Show Completed and Assessor Only Answers fields that go with it | Options tab | General tab |
| Use Drivers, and the Assessment Drivers panel | Options tab | General tab |
| Assessment Fonts and Embed Fonts in PDF | Options tab | Design tab |
| The cohort output fields (Cohort Email Report, Cohort Email Results, Cohort Home Results, and similar) | Feedback tab, Outputs panel | Feedback tab, Cohort Feedback subtab |
On the Emails tab, the Organization column has been removed from the email list. The columns are now Email Type, Subject, Customer Type, and Cohort Iteration.
4. Site Text page names
Three page types in Assessment Settings > Site Text have been renamed so the list matches the part of the journey each one controls.
| Previously | Now |
| Response Complete | Completion Page |
| Cohorts | Cohort Initiation |
| Organization Create | Partner Portal Registration |
Any text you have already customized is retained. Only the name of the page type has changed.
5. Fields removed from the General tab
Two fields no longer appear on Assessment Settings > General.
- Segmentation Type. This set the default behavior when adding new themes. It is no longer required, because a Theme can now belong to more than one Theme Group.
- Show Score in Assessment. This checkbox has been removed.
If you were relying on either of these settings and need help with an alternative, please get in touch and we will talk it through with you.
6. What has not changed
- Your merge strings. Report templates continue to work without any changes. Merge string names such as
AnswerReportTextand parameters such asRepTextare unchanged. Only the descriptions shown in the Merge Manager have been updated to the new wording. - The API and webhooks. Field names such as
ReportTextandSegmentationId, and events such as Response Completed, are unchanged. - Your assessments, responses, cohorts, and reports. All existing configuration and data carries across untouched.
- Answer Report Name. This is a different field and keeps its name.
Note: Some screenshots in our Help Center articles still show the previous wording. We are refreshing these as part of a wider design update. The written instructions are up to date.
