Two new features are now live: Box and Whisker Charts for cohort feedback reports, and Document Management for bulk downloading respondent-uploaded files. This release note summarises what each one does, who it's for, and where to learn more.
We've shipped two features in this release that target two different parts of the platform - one for report builders who want richer cohort visualisations, and one for administrators who need to handle respondent-submitted documents at scale. Nothing about your existing assessments, reports, or settings changes unless you choose to use these features.

1. New Chart Type: Box and Whisker
Box and Whisker is a new chart type for Cohort Feedback Reports. It shows the spread of scores across your cohort for each section, subsection, question, or segmentation - so instead of a single average value, you can see how widely (or tightly) your respondents agreed.
Each row of the chart shows:
- The minimum and maximum scores in the cohort, represented as bubbles at either end.
- The median score (the middle value, not the average) shown as a labelled badge.
- A connector line (whisker) joining the min and max.
- An optional interquartile box highlighting the middle 50% of responses (the 25th to 75th percentiles) - turn it on with ShowBox=Y.
Why this is useful:
- See at a glance which areas have strong consensus and which have wide variation in opinion.
- The median is more robust to outliers than a simple average, giving a better picture of a "typical" respondent.
- By default the bubbles use your existing rating colours, so red/amber/green cues carry through automatically. You can also override colours using ChartColors.
Tip: Box and Whisker charts require a Cohort Split Type (e.g. SplitType=R for grouping by Respondent) so the chart has a distribution to plot. They are not available in Individual reports.
For setup instructions, parameter reference, and worked examples, see Box and Whisker Charts.
2. New Feature: Document Management
Document Management is a new tool for administrators who collect files from respondents through Document Upload questions. Instead of downloading files one response at a time, you can now bulk-download documents as a single ZIP archive, with filenames you control.
Downloads are available at three levels:
- Response level - download all documents from a single response.
- Cohort level - download documents across all completed responses in a cohort.
- Reports level - download documents across multiple cohorts for an entire assessment.
Why this is useful:
- Centralise respondent-submitted files into systems like SharePoint, OneDrive, or your own document store without manual one-by-one downloads.
- Configure how each file is named so documents can be identified at a glance, without having to open them.
- Save significant time when handling assessments that collect documents (applications, financial reports, evidence files, etc.).
Note: Document Management is off by default. An Admin needs to enable it under Administer > Site Settings > Features > General by ticking Use Document Management.
For step-by-step setup, filename configuration, and a walkthrough of each download level, see Document Management.
3. Getting Started
Both features are available now in your site. Here is the quickest way to try each one:
- Box and Whisker: Open any Cohort Feedback Report template, insert a merge string from the Merge Manager, choose Box And Whisker from the Charts list, and set a Cohort Split (such as Group by Respondent).
- Document Management: Enable Use Document Management under Site Settings > Features. Once on, you'll see new download options at the Response, Cohort, and Reports levels.
