In an open-response assessment, the Complete button (also shown as Finish and Complete) is what moves a response to the Completed status. If you cannot see this button, it is almost always because of who the button is configured to show to, combined with whether your user account is marked as an assessor.
Check 1: Who is the Complete button shown to?
This is controlled by the Show Completed field, but that field only appears after Open Response has been enabled. If you cannot find the Show Completed field, follow these steps in order:
- Go to Assessment Settings > Options and tick the Open Response checkbox.
- Click Save. The Show Completed field is only displayed once Open Response is selected and saved.
- Go to Assessment Settings > General and scroll to the Show Completed field.
- Select who is shown the Complete button. The options are Assessor, Both, No (the button is not shown to anyone), or Respondent.
In most configurations this is set to Assessor, which means only an assessor sees the Complete button. If it is set to Assessor and your account is not marked as an assessor, the button will not appear for you. See Check 2.
Check 2: Is your account marked as an assessor?
If the Complete button is restricted to assessors, your user account must be designated as an assessor to see it. To set this:
- Confirm the user has the Administrator or Assessment Manager role in the system.
- Open the user's profile in Users and Permissions.
- Tick the Assessor checkbox on the profile.
- Save the profile.
Once the account is marked as an assessor and you are logged in as that account, the Complete button will be visible on responses for that assessment.
