Rating bands group scores into levels, for example Red, Orange and Green, or Developing, Competent and Advanced. Each band has a name, a maximum score and a color. The color is used on every chart and rating graphic that shows the band.
Add or edit a rating band
- Go to Assessments and click Settings on the assessment's row.
- Open the Ratings tab.
- Click Add Rating to create a new band, or click Edit on an existing band.
- In the Rating field, enter the name of the band, for example "Green".
- In the Max Score field, enter the highest score for the band as a whole-number percentage, for example
100. - Click the Rating Color arrow, then select a color or enter the hex code.
- Click Apply before you close the color picker. If you do not click Apply, the color does not change.
- Click Save.
- Repeat for each band.
How the score ranges work
Each band has only a maximum score. The band below it sets the minimum. For example:
- Red: Max Score 49 (covers 0% to 49%)
- Orange: Max Score 74 (covers 50% to 74%)
- Green: Max Score 100 (covers 75% to 100%)
If your assessment uses Likert scoring, convert the Likert value to a percentage. For example, 3.5 out of 5 is (3.5 / 5) x 100 = 70.
Notes
- Changing a band's color changes it everywhere that band is used. There is no merge string parameter that overrides a band color for one chart.
- Completed responses do not update automatically when you change score ranges. Re-open and complete a response again to recalculate it, or contact support if you have many responses to update.
- To use a different set of bands for some sections, see Using Advanced Ratings.
