Segmentations provide a flexible way to group questions or answers across your assessment, allowing for additional layers of scoring, rating, and reporting beyond the standard response/section/subsection structure.

Key Features of Segmentations:
Flexible Grouping: You can tag questions or answers with one or more segmentations, creating thematic groupings that can span different sections of your assessment. This is particularly useful for analyzing themes that are addressed across various parts of the assessment.
Automated Scoring and Reporting: Once segmentations are set up, the system automatically calculates scores for each segmentation. These scores can be incorporated into both feedback and cohort reports.

Linking segmentations to questions or answers
If implemented, segmentations can be linked to either:
- Questions or calculations, regardless of where it appears in the assessment. This is the most common set up.
- Answers. Answer segmentations allow for each answer to a question to be linked to a different segmentation.
Each question, calculation or answer can be linked to as many segmentations as you want.
Set up instructions
Step 1: Enable Segmentations
Step 2: Create Segmentations and segmentation groups
Step 3: Link your segmentations
Step 1: Enable Segmentations:
In the Site Settings Screen, check the "Use Segmentations" option. This action will:
- Add a "Segmentations" button to the Administration menu.
- Display an "Assessment Segmentations" button in the Assessment Builder menu.
- Introduce a segmentation selection panel in both the Questions and Answers dialog boxes (Read more about Available Answers).
Step 2: Create Segmentations and segmentation groups
Navigate to Segmentations from the main menu to create new segmentations:
It's optional, but we highly recommend creating a segmentation group first. Segmentation groups create an extra layer of reporting. For example, you could create a bar chart that pulls in all segmentations in a group. or return a score for a segmentation group.
Tip: Navigate between the segmentations and segmentation group lists by clicking on the top right button.
Adding a segmentation and segmentation group
- Add the segmentation group by clicking 'Add Segmentation Group'. Fill out the required fields. More details here.
- Navigate to the segmentations page by clicking 'manage segmentations'.
- Then click 'Add Segmentations' to add the segmentation. More details here.
Step 3: Link your segmentations
There are two ways to do this.
- Via the 'Segmentations' menu in the assessment builder. Read more here.
- By editing each question> and selecting the segmentation from the list in the options tab.
- Tip. Hold down the ctrl button to select/deselect multiple segmentations.
