An AI Interpretation generates written feedback, and optionally a score, from a respondent's results. You write a prompt that tells the AI what to analyze and how to respond, and the AI produces text that can be pulled into any feedback format: a results page, a PDF, a Word report, a cohort report, or a 360 analysis.
How to set one up
- Add the AI Interpretation. In the Assessment Builder, add a new AI Interpretation.
- Write the prompt. Enter the instructions that tell the AI what to analyze and how to respond, and use Add Merge String to feed in the respondent's data (scores, answers, rating text). For example, the merge string below pulls in the score of every section:
You are an experienced leadership coach writing feedback for {Response.FirstName}.
Here are their assessment results:
{Tables[SectionNo=ALL]}
Write a concise, supportive analysis (3 to 4 short paragraphs) that:
- highlights their strongest and weakest sections
- gives two or three specific, actionable recommendations
- uses a professional, encouraging tone
Format with short paragraphs and bold the section names.
- Test it. Run the interpretation against an existing response to preview the generated output, then adjust the prompt and merge strings until the result reads the way you want.
-
Add the merge string to your report. To display the generated text, insert the Answer Text merge string for the interpretation's position in your Word template, for example
{ResponseAnswer.AnswerText[S5 SS1 Q10]}(replace with the section, subsection, and question numbers of your AI Interpretation).
To use an AI-generated score, link the AI Interpretation to a segmentation, then reference that segmentation's score with the standard score merge strings.
How do I view a response's AI Interpretation result?
To see what the AI generated for a particular respondent:
- Go to the Response List and find the respondent.
- Click View.
- Open the View Interpretation tab. This displays the generated result for every AI Interpretation in your assessment for that respondent.
Reviewing or editing the result. If you want to check, edit, or regenerate the AI result before the report is produced, enable the Assessor Functionality. With it enabled (and the response at status "Answered"), open View Interpretation, click Edit, then adjust the text directly or click Rerun to regenerate it. Tick Locked when you are satisfied, then Save and Complete to lock the result in and generate the report.
The quality of the output depends heavily on the prompt. For prompt-writing best practices, see Writing Effective AI Interpretation Prompts. For the full setup, see Creating AI Interpretations for Reports.
