If a benchmark is not appearing - on a chart, or in a benchmark score merge string such as {RatingScore.Score[Survey BM1=0]} or {RatingScore.ActualPoints[SectionNo=1 BM1=2]} - work through these checks. They are the same in both cases. For full setup, see Setting Up Benchmarks for Reporting.
- Benchmarking is not enabled. Confirm the Benchmarking checkbox is ticked on Assessment Settings > General. Without it, no benchmark data is calculated.
- The Base Benchmark Label is missing. Benchmarks will not display unless the "all data" label is set on Assessment Settings > General. This is the most common cause.
- There are not enough responses yet. A classifier benchmark is only generated once it has at least the Benchmark Minimum Values number of responses for that value. Below that threshold, nothing shows.
- The data has not refreshed. Benchmarks recalculate nightly, not instantly. A benchmark you set up today, or one that only just reached its minimum, may not appear until the next day.
- Seeded benchmarks are the exception. Values uploaded to a seeded classifier are available as soon as the upload succeeds, so a seeded benchmark that is still missing is not waiting for the nightly refresh. Check the upload and the Benchmark Answer values instead. See Why does my seeded benchmark upload fail?.
- You are benchmarking at the question level. Benchmarks are available for response, section, subsection, and theme scores, but not for individual questions. To benchmark a single question, set up a theme for that question and report on the theme instead.
-
The classifier number in the merge string is wrong. Check that
BM1=nuses the correct classifier number, or0for all responses. -
A score merge string returns blank, not an error. If the benchmark is unavailable for any of the reasons above,
{RatingScore.Score[... BM1=n]}and{RatingScore.ActualPoints[... BM1=n]}simply output nothing. You will see an empty space in the report or dashboard rather than a message telling you what went wrong, so work through the checks above before assuming the merge string itself is at fault. - Gauge and donut charts are no longer an exception. These chart types now support benchmarks, so an unsupported chart type is no longer a reason for a benchmark not to show. If a gauge or donut is still blank, the cause is one of the checks above.
-
The benchmark is showing, but in place of the respondent's score. On a single-value output - a score merge string, a gauge or donut, a single horizontal bar or a progress bar - the benchmark parameter replaces the value shown rather than adding a second series. To see the respondent and the benchmark side by side, use a multi chart type such as
{BarMulti[...]}or{BarMultiHorizontal[...]}.
