While it's easy to show rating text in your feedback or cohort report based on the score for a subsection, section, or segmentation scores - or for the whole assessment score; it is sometimes a requirement to show scores for combinations of scores.
Step 1 - Calculation:
In the example below we want to show different text for every combination of ratings for three sections. To keep it simple we only have two ratings for each section, the approach is the same for more ratings, it just makes the formula a little longer.
The approach is to create a segmentation in which we calculate a score for each combination of rating:
| Section 2 | Section 3 | Section 4 | Score |
| L | L | L | 1 |
| L | L | H | 2 |
| L | H | L | 3 |
| L | H | H | 4 |
| H | L | L | 5 |
| H | L | H | 6 |
| H | H | L | 7 |
| H | H | H | 8 |
To calculate the combined score, each section is assigned a weighted point value based on whether its score is considered “high” or “low”.
For example:
Section 2 contributes 4 points for a high score, and 0 points for a low score
Section 3 contributes 2 points for a high score, and 0 points for a low score
Section 4 contributes 2 points for a high score, and 1 point for a low score
The points from each section are then added together to produce the final combined score shown above.
The calculation for that looks like this:
Notes:
1. We recommend you set the Maximum points to 10 if you have 10 or fewer combinations - or 100 if you have over 10. This is to ensure that the percentage calculation (that ratings are based on) will always be an even number, which makes it easier.
2. The calculation adds the score based on the approach specified above.
3. The resultant score is being placed is a segmentation dedicated to this purpose.
Step 2 Ratings
You will need to create a Rating Type specifically for this purpose in Advanced Ratings.
Then for that Rating Type you will create a Rating for every combination:
In each Rating you should enter the Rating Text for that combination.
Step 3 - showing the resultant text on your Report
To show the text create a merge string with a type of Assessment Rating Text:
Notes:
- Use the Merge type of Rating Text Assessment
- Select the rating, based on the Segmentation Score
- Specify the Segmentation used to store the score.
- Specify the Rating Type used, in this example we called it "All"
