What is an Assessment-Type Results Dashboard?
Results Dashboards come in four types: Individual, Cohort, Assessment, and Summary. The type you choose determines the scope of data shown on the dashboard.
An Individual dashboard displays data for a single respondent. A Cohort dashboard displays data for a single cohort (one team or group). An Assessment-type dashboard goes one level higher - it displays data across all respondents and all cohorts for an entire assessment. This makes it the ideal choice for executive summaries and cross-team reporting.
For a full overview of all dashboard types, containers, tiles, and drag-and-drop layout, see Building and Deploying Results Dashboards.
When to Use This Dashboard Type
An Assessment-type Results Dashboard is the right choice when you need to view results across multiple individuals or cohorts (teams) in one place. Common scenarios include:
- You run an assessment across multiple departments (each department is a cohort) and want to compare results across all teams in a single view.
- You want to give senior leadership or HR a single dashboard showing organization-wide trends without needing to open each cohort individually.
- You want to view a summary of respondents' completion status within an assessment.
Example: Inspire Me Global
Inspire Me Global runs a Leadership assessment across seven departments - Customer Service, HR, Sales, Operations, Finance, IT, and Marketing. Each department is set up as a Group/Team cohort. An Assessment-type Results Dashboard lets them see all seven teams' results side by side in one dashboard, giving senior leadership a complete picture of leadership performance across the organization.
Step 1: Create the Results Dashboard
- Go to Assessment Manager > Results in the left menu.
- Click Add Dashboard.
- Enter a Name (e.g., "Leadership Executive Summary") and Title (e.g., "Leadership Assessment - Executive Summary").
- Under Type, select Assessment.
- An additional dropdown will appear - select the assessment you want this dashboard linked to (e.g., "Leadership").
- Click Save.
Important: Selecting Assessment as the Type is the critical step. The assessment dropdown only appears after you select Assessment (or Cohort or Individual) as the type. If you don't see the assessment field, check that you've selected a type first.
Step 2: Design Your Dashboard Layout
Once your dashboard is created, you can design the layout using containers and tiles. This works the same way as any other Results Dashboard type.
- For full details on containers, tiles, and drag-and-drop layout, see Building and Deploying Results Dashboards.
- For formatting and customization options (background colors, borders, tile widths, etc.), see Formatting and Customizing Results Dashboards.
Step 3: Add Charts Split by Cohort (Team)
In this example, we show data broken down by cohort (team), using the SplitType=U parameter in the merge strings. This splits the chart by Cohort Subject, so each bar or segment represents one cohort.
The table below shows example merge strings used in the Inspire Me Global Leadership dashboard:
| Chart | What It Shows | Merge String |
| Response Completion by Team | Stacked bar showing completion status per cohort | {StackedBar[ResponseStatus=All LabelColor=#FFFFFF Label=Y SplitType=U Height=300 Width=400]} |
| Overall Leadership Score by Team | Bar chart of overall assessment score per cohort | {BarMulti[Survey SplitType=U Label=Y]} |
| Score by Section and Team | Grouped bars showing section scores per cohort |
{BarMulti[SectionNo=ALL SplitType=U Label=Y]} |
| Score by Rater Role (table) | Heatmap table split by role | {Table[SectionNo=ALL SubsectionNo=ALL BackgroundColour=Rating SplitType=C Class=8 LabelColor=#ffffff Invert=Y]} |
Note: For a full list of available merge strings and parameters, see the Merge Strings Library article.
Step 4: Set Up Filters
Filters let viewers narrow down the data displayed on the dashboard. To configure filters:
- In the Results Edit screen, click Filters in the top ribbon.
- Check the Available box next to each field you want viewers to filter by.
- Common filters for an Assessment-type dashboard include:
- Organization - filter to see results for a specific organization (e.g., Inspire Me Global only).
- Cohort Subject - filter to show only specific teams (e.g., Sales, Marketing, and Operations).
- Classifier fields - depending on your assessment setup, you may have classifiers like Year of Service, Location, etc. These let viewers filter results by respondent attributes (e.g., "show results only for members with 10+ years of service").
Step 5: Save and View
- Click Save & View to preview your Results Dashboard.
- Select the filters you want to apply to view the data.
- Remove "Test Response" from the Test Data filter button if it is active.
Important: Results Dashboards default to showing Test Response data so that the dashboard can render on first load. If your dashboard appears empty or shows no data, check the Test Data filter button and remove "Test Response" to view your actual assessment data.
