Introduction to Drivers
Drivers enable various audiences—such as organizations, groups, or individual respondents—to engage with distinct versions of an assessment.
By using drivers, you can create a single assessment with content that automatically adapts to different groups. This results in a customized assessment while reducing the setup effort.
How Do Drivers Work?
Setting Up Drivers:
- Define Drivers: Drivers are added to the Options tab in your assessment settings. You can label them as you like and include as many as needed.
- Add Drivers to a Question: Add a multiple-choice question in your assessment. Drivers appear as the answers to the question. it's linked to the Drivers response setting and is automatically answered by the system. If you prefer respondents not to see or change this, you can hide the question.
- Conditionally Displaying Assessment Elements: Based on the answers to the drivers question, specific sections, subsections, or questions in the assessment can be set by using conditions to appear only when a certain driver is selected. This way, different respondents see only the content relevant to them.
Methods to setting Drivers
Drivers can be configured through several methods, including:
- Organization Settings: Apply drivers to specific organizations from the settings panel.
- Admin Cohort Selection: When creating a cohort, the admin can set drivers.
- Customer Self-Selection Cohort: Customers may select drivers during external cohort initiation.
- Response Settings: Use the Drivers tab in Response Settings to configure drivers directly.
- Respondent Self-Selection: In the assessment, respondents can answer the drivers question to select relevant drivers themselves.
IMPORTANT:
For an assessment, you must choose to set drivers only one way. If you choose to set drivers via the organization, then you won't have the option to set the drivers when initiating a cohort or in the response settings.
Example Use Case: Customizing a Team Performance Assessment with Drivers
Let’s say you’re using an assessment designed to evaluate 17 different elements of team performance. To give business leaders flexibility, you want them to select their own drivers in the external cohort initiation process. By using drivers, you can achieve this customization seamlessly.
Step-by-Step Setup
-
Define Drivers for Each Element:
- First, set up a driver for each of the 17 team performance elements in the Options tab of assessment settings. Label each driver according to its respective element (e.g., Communication, Leadership, Goal-Setting).
-
Link Drivers to a Question:
- Create a multiple-choice question in the assessment that lists these 17 elements as answers. Link this question to "Drivers" in the Link to Response Setting field. Make the question hiddden.
-
Set Drivers at the Cohort Level:
- Ensure this assessment has no drivers set at either the organization level or the response level.
- In site text> Add site text type 'Drivers Site Text' to add instructions for picking drivers in the external cohort initiation.
- During the external cohort initiation, business leaders can select which elements they wish to assess.
- Each cohort only sees and responds to questions relevant to the drivers the cohort initiator has selected, making the assessment more relevant and focused.
Drivers-set up Instructions
Create your drivers
Create a driver for every part of your assessment you want to be able to show or hide. If you want it to show for all respondents then you don't need a driver. For example, you may want the welcome page to always show, so you don't need to create a driver for it.
- Head to Assessment settings> Options tab and tick 'Use Drivers'.
- The drivers section will appear allowing you to add the drivers one by one.
- Click 'Add Driver', fill out the name, then hit 'Update'.
Add the Drivers Question
- Add a question to your assessment on the first page/section.
- It needs to be a multiple-choice question.
- Add every driver as an answer to the question
- In the options tab, Choose 'Drivers' from the 'Link to Response Setting' field.
- tick "hidden' if you want this question to be hidden from the respondent.
Add conditions to your assessment
- Make sections, subsections or questions conditional on the corresponding answer to the drivers question.
Setting the drivers
Each Assessment can only have drivers set from one of the options below. At first, the system will let you set the drivers at any level, but once that's happened, the other options will no longer be available for this assessment.
Organizations
- Set the drivers for an organization by editing your organization and heading to the drivers tab.
- Any response or cohort added under this organization will have these drivers applied.
- The 'Organization Encrypted Key' can be added to shareable URLs to apply the organization's driver settings to responses and cohorts.
- Drivers can be edited by an assessment manager in the partner portal if given access. more info.
Cohorts
- A drivers tab will appear in the cohort settings when creating a cohort in the system.
- If external cohort initiation is set up, there will be a page for driver selection. Instructions for this page can be added by adding the Site text type 'Drivers Site text'.
Individual Responses
Drivers can be selected in the response settings of an individual response. Head to response settings> drivers tab to select or deselect the drivers.
If you want a respondent to choose their own drivers in an assessment, you can unhide the drivers question. This allows the respondent to choose which parts of the assessment they want to answer.
